A woman of the world

Sure, as if being a multiracial, transracial adoptee isn't interesting enough, I've decided to try my luck at living outside of the U.S. for the first time since my arrival from Korea many years ago. To be specific, I am relocating to the Middle East come January 2012. You know, the place that the average American has little understanding of and less than positive views. It's kind of like the American perspective on Africa as one country, and not a continent of over 50 countries. Ouch.

Nonetheless, I have a different view...one of hope, of opportunity, of exposure, of purpose. The fact that this is the professional opportunity of a lifetime is small potatoes by comparison. I will gain greater cultural perspective about a part of the world that is (in many ways) shunned by the rest of the world. I will live in one of the most diverse cities in the world. My child will become a greater global citizen. My husband will have the freedom to pursue his personal and professional interests...need I say more? Yes, I am a bit anxious about leaving all we know behind, to pursue our dream. We are creating a great distance from our loved ones, and friends, but not at a loss. We are creating a gateway to many other parts of the world for major gains personally, professionally, socially, intellectually, and emotionally.

I am hoping that this will refuel my interest in posting to my blog. I've been seeking ways to breathe new life into it and this may be just the transition I need. So, for now, less writing and more packing!

Oh, and one more thing...we'd love to have visitors!!! :-)

I'm sad you're leaving!! However, I am so happy for you. I was just telling Stacey how I wish I could have the whole transcontinental lifestyle with Imani. I am so curious to see how Sophia will be after living there. Pretty amazing stuff for a three year old. :)

Good luck with packing and the transition! I'm incredibly excited for you and your family! Please do post more once you've moved and are all settled in! I can't wait to hear the stories and see the Sophia Chronicles on fb as she discovers the world!
